Years Experience
About SGodley Architects

Yes, she STILL persists...

Historic precedent? Indeed in working with SGodley Architects you are making history. Shamika M. Godley, Principal & CEO is one of approximately 503 licensed black females to practice Architecture in the US out of 173,000 licensed Architects nationwide. Shamika is also a part of history by being in an even limited number of Black women to be the founder and majority owner and manager of their own practice since its inception. So yes… this is history in the making. Shamika hails from Howard University where she graduated with honors and on full scholarship from the American Institute of Architects in 1997. A native of Rhode Island, she chose to make the DC/Baltimore metropolitan area her home. Her passions include teaching young aspiring Architects and educating her interns, clients and staff how to ensure successful projects for the last 12 years with her business. Her love of learning keeps her engaged and looking with new eyes on every opportunity.

SGodley Architects has been growing with and educating our clients for over a decade. In this time we have secured major projects with historic and social significance – not the least of which is supporting the design and managing the construction documentation of the interiors for the Lexington Market Redevelopment in Baltimore, Maryland. Managing the construction documents for 52 vendor stalls on a constricted schedule is daunting to some but not to SGodley Architects. We use time-tested and proven project management principles with repeatable processes, allowing us to provide consistent, clear and correct drawings for our clients, BCT Design Group and Seawall Development.

We support teams large and small, traditional design bid build or design build in all areas of the building industry. Give us a call. Shamika Godley will return your call or email and engage with you from project initiation thru construction completion. Our clients have been and remain our best project engine and as such, Shamika knows each of them directly. We aim for personal connection to your project completion – start to finish.

Our Staff

Danielle Howerton

In late 2021, SGodley re-connected with a former summer intern and recent graduate of Hampton University. Danielle was happy to join the team. She is fast becoming a key and well-rounded team member, participating in design, construction and permit documentation on no less than 30 active projects simultaneously in all phases of work.

Stefan Lucas

Stefan has a critical role in pushing projects forward, supporting Danielle and importing key code analysis and construction document knowledge to the team. Stefan is our resident Revit guru as well – helping the team out of every conundrum we encounter.

Rebecca Hawranick AIA

Key to our construction management, Rebecca manages our construction projects alongside Shamika. As a registered Architect, Rebecca’s feedback and finesse in responding to RFIs, submittals and general construction project management helps to keep projects moving and well documented.

Natalie Salabes Baker

Natalie’s skill lies best in process, code analysis and existing condition documentation and detailing. We have added Natalie to some of our more intricate and complex new construction and adaptive re-use projects. She analyzes well and helps contribute to the team a thoughtful and dedicated approach to due diligence. She’s been practicing over 20 years and brings a wealth of experience with her. We welcome her to the team in April 2022.

Garrick Houston

Garrick is a solid project manager, handing diverse and long and short term projects with ease. From a partial commercial raze to federal agency renovations, Garrick is skilled, organized and complete. He represents a renovating powerhouse. We welcome him to the team in April 2022.

FAQ

We do have an hourly rate for certain services but we don’t budget our projects that way. We look at each individual project, assess the needs of it and price accordingly for the effort it will take to complete YOUR project. Our fees are always all inclusive and as long as the project scope does not change, neither will our fee. We do not bill for minutia either – when you hire us, never hesitate to call and worry about a bill for that call or email. Our fees are per contract and up front. No small print.

We always recommend that Owners hire their architect first and find the supporting cast (General Contractors, sub-consultants as needed) after that. This is because the design and construction process can be very like a symphony and it’s best to hire your conductor first. The quality of the relationship with your Architect can and will set the tone for the rest of the project. Additionally, your architect is your personal advocate for the duration of your project. Think of your architect as your lawyer in court – a critical asset not to be without.

While we can make forecasts based on our vast experience filing permits over the last 12 years in various jurisdictions, permit processing is never an exact science. We are at the mercy of the reviewers and as such, have built solid and respected relationships with many of them. We do all we can to move this process along with the least amount of turbulence.

Give us a call. We have a special, affordable process dedicated just for you.

It is our job to explain to you as best we can. To that end, we use Autodesk Revit to draw/model all of our project in 3D. You won’t have to guess what your projects will look like because we will SHOW you before it is built!
